Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) beat Pune Warriors India (PWI) by 36 runs in the 70th Indian Premier League (IPL) 2012 match at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune. With this win, Kolkata have maintained their second position in the points table.
Defending a moderate score of 136 runs, Kolkata spinner Iqbal Abdulla gave an important breakthrough as he dismissed opener Robin Uthappa.
Michael Clarke was a big dismissal for KKR as he was sent back to pavilion by Yusuf Pathan in the eighth over.
Pune were never allowed o get back into the match as wickets kept on tumbling.
Earlier, opting to bat first after winning the toss, Gautam Gambhir made a slow start. He was dismissed early in the fifth over; his dismissal was followed by that of the all-rounder Jacques Kallis.
Brendon McCullum and all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan then consolidated the innings with a partnership in the middle overs. Both added 67 runs for the third wicket before McCullum was dismissed in the 17th over by Parnell who claimed his second wicket.
