Shane Watson admitted that the present team Australia is possibly their most inexperienced side and he along with skipper Michael Clarke will have to guide them to success.
“I have played a lot of cricket here and had a lot of success and we have quite a young group here,” Watson was quoted as saying by Times of India.
“Especially now with Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting not here, Michael [Clarke] and I are the senior players. We certainly have to help out the young guys as much as we can.”
“What Ricky and Mike gave to the team... you can't replace that amount of experience. But I think it's a great opportunity for some of the younger guys. I know it's the same with the Indian team. The quality of Rahul Dravid alone... he's certainly going to be missed. The way he goes about his life is a lesson for everyone.”
Asking him about playing down the order and not opening like he usually does, Watson replied, “I think if everyone is fit that's most probably the way it will be. It's a continuation of what's happened in the last 12 months. I suppose Michael and I are going to be very important in the middle-order.”
Expecting his first child, Watson hopes not to get distracted during the Test series.
“It is potentially on my mind. We are just going with the flow,” he said.
