Shikhar Dhawan has registered the highest score by an Indian on Test debut during his belligerent knock in the third Test against Australia at Mohali.
Earlier, Dhawan became the 13th Indian batsman to score a hundred on debut. He also broke the record of the fastest century by a debutant in the history of the game — breaking West Indian Dwayne Smith’s record of 93 deliveries to score the ton.
The previous highest score by an Indian on Test debut was by Gundappa Viswanath, who scored 137 against Australia at Kanpur in 1969-70. Dhawan achieved the milestone when he smashed a boundary off Nathan Lyon when on 136.

Dhawan has also registered sixth highest score by a debutant in Test history. He finished the day unbeaten on 185.
