The ministry of youth affairs and sports on Friday claimed that it had sent the Arjuna Award circular and proforma to Board of Control for Cricket in India on January 27 as per records of the ministry's dispatch register as well as their Under secretary having spoken to BCCI staff.
The release claims that SPS Tomar, who is an Under Secretary in the sports department, spoke to Dalpat Vandolikar who is the BCCI's Assistant Manager (Operations) between April 18 to 20 asking him to send nominations whose last date of acceptance is April 30.
However when a senior BCCI official was contacted he categorically denied the news.
"We have spoken to Dalpat and he said that no one from the sports ministry has spoken to him between April 18-20," the official told on conditions of anonymity.
The release issued by ministry says,"In continuation of earlier facts disclosed, the Ministry would like to confirm that the letters to all the Sports Federations were dispatched to all these organisations/entities including BCCI on 27th Jan, 2012 as recorded by Ministry 's dispatch register for Postal dak- S. No 166 and file no F-4-3/12 -SP IV," the release stated.
"Further , it is reiterated that Shri SPS Tomar, Under Secretary (Sports) spoke to Shri Dalpat Vadolikar, Assistant Manager (Operations) in BCCI, Mumbai between 18-20th April, 2012, asking him to send nominations of BCCI for Arjuna Awards etc expeditiously since the last date for receiving such nominations was drawing to a close on 30th April, 2012," it further stated.
