Sri Lanka-Bangladesh 1st Test at Galle ends in a draw

Bangladesh played out a dull last session against Sri Lanka as the first Test at Galle ended in a draw on Tuesday.

Chasing a target of 267 runs in the last session, Bangladesh were 70 for the loss of one wicket when captains from both teams agreed to conclude the match since a result was not possible with a handful of overs remaining on the fifth day.

Post Tea, Shaminda Eranga infliceted early damage on the Bangladesh batting by dismissing Anamul Haque for one run. The batsman presented a faint defence to an incoming delivery as the pace of the ball disturbed the stumps.

From thereon, Jahurul Islam and Mohammad Ashraful held on to their wicket as the a draw was imminent.

This is the first instance of Bangladesh playing out a draw against the Lankans. The match never looked like producing a result as both teams posted mammoth first innings totals with the visiting team taking a lead.

This Test saw as many as eight tons from both teams together including a double ton by Bangladesh skipper Mushfiqur Rahim.
