Colombo: Mar 30, 2012
England suffered a serious blow on Friday when their lead pacer Stuart Broad was ruled out of the second Test against Sri Lanka, which will be played at Colombo next week.
A scan has confirmed that the right-arm pacer has suffered a right calf strain, and will return to UK immediately to begin his rehabilitation program.
The ICC informed on Twitter, "England pace bowler Stuart Broad has been ruled of the final Test against Sri Lanka after a scan today confirmed a right calf strain."
The injury could also prevent him to take part in the fifth edition of the Indian Premier League. Broad was set to play for Kings XI Punjab.
He will be replaced by either Tim Bresnan or Steve Finn in the playing XI.
England need a win desperately at Colombo as a draw would make South Africa topple them from the top spot in ICC Test rankings.
