Thirush Kamini becomes first Indian woman to hit century in World Cup

Opener Thirush Kamini became the first Indian player to hit a century in the Women's World Cup in the inaugural match of the 2013 edition against the West Indies at the Brabourne Stadium.

Kamini shared a record opening stand with Poonam Raut (72) — the highest opening partnership by an Indian pair against a non-associate cricketing nation. The best opening partnership of 258 came against Ireland.

After starting off slowly and letting Raut do the scoring, Kamini gradually picked up her rate and reached a century in 146 balls, including 11 boundaries and a six.

Once Raut was dismissed, Kamini took over the reins and picked up India's run rate on the way to a memorable century. She was run out on exactly 100 as India reached 224 for two in the 42nd over.

It was the 22-year-old's maiden One-Day International (ODI) century, and what better an occassion to mark it than a World Cup match.
