India opener Gautam Gambhir paid rich tribute to VVS Laxman on Sunday following the Hyderabad batsman’s retirement from international cricket.
VVS Laxman announced retirement from international cricket with “immediate effect” in a press conference at Hyderabad on Saturday.
“There is a lot to learn from Laxman. I am not saying this for cricketers alone. His on and off field conduct was impeccable and he will remain a genuine role model for youngsters. We will miss him in the dressing room and so will his countless fans,” Gambhir was quoted as saying by Deccan Herald.
Laxman’s surprising decision to retire ahead of the New Zealand series shocked the cricket fraternity.
“Laxman has batted at every position in the batting order. He always put the interest of the team ahead and always performed in the toughest conditions. He was an inspiration to all of us,” Gambhir concluded.
