The Wankhede Stadium at Mumbai – venue of the April 2 coveted World Cup final was opened to the public on Sunday. And not surprisingly, there was a posse of mediamen present and they were taken around the renovated stands, newly-built players’ dressing room, press box and various other facilities.
The Stadium sports a feel-good look notwithstanding the delays in construction work owing to a few legal wrangles.
Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Sharad Pawar inaugurated the Stadium on Sunday evening. He said that MCA has spent Rs. 275 crore on the renovation work.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Wankhede Stadium pitch and outfield would be tested when it hosts one semifinal and final of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) Twenty20 Championship to be played here on February 26 and 27.
