West Indies crushed New Zealand by 56 runs in the first Twenty20 International on Saturday with Kieron Pollard and Chris Gayle hitting impressive half-centuries.
West Indies made 209 for two off their 20 overs with Gayle unbeaten on 85 and Pollard making 63 not out in a partnership of 108.
New Zealand were then bowled out for 153 in the 19th over with opener Rob Nicol top-scoring with 32.
Earlier, after winning the toss West indies chose to bat.
The Caribbean side had come into the match after a disastrous tour of England, where they failed to win a single match. The West Indies lost the three-match Test and One-Day International series by 0-2 margins, and also sliding to a heavy defeat in the one-off T20I last Sunday. (AFP)
