Ajit Wadekar, Unmukt Chand to be honoured at Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence

Former India captain, coach, manager and Chairman of the Selection Committee, Ajit Wadekar is set to be awarded the Castrol Lifetime Achievement Award at the Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence for 2011. The award ceremony is to be held at Bangalore on August 29, 2012.

 

Present India under-19 skipper Unmukt Chand will be awarded the Castrol junior Cricketer of the year, 2011.

 

Apart from that the other awards are – Castrol Indian Cricketer of the Year, Castrol Test Cricketer of the Year, Castrol ODI Cricketer of the Year, Castrol Indian Batsman of the Year and Castrol Indian Bowler of the Year.

 

Cricketers, who has been nominated for the Castrol Indian Cricketer of the year are Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar, Suresh Raina and Ravichandran Ashwin, Castrol reported in a press release.

 

The Indian cricketer of the year will be selected through a two-tier process. The first process will be a point based rating table for batting, bowling and fielding during all Test and ODI matches. The top five are shortlisted as nominees.

 

Then, formers cricketers are asked to vote for their choice. The voting is by secret ballot and monitored by Professional Management Group.

 

Castrol has introduced two new awards this year – Castrol Performance Under Pressure Award, which will be given to the cricketer who has performed consistently under pressure and Castrol stand out Performance Under Pressure Award, which will be presented to the cricketer who delivered an outstanding performance in extreme situation which resulted in a crucial victory for the Indian team.

 

Moreover, there will be some special awards for special performances, like each and every year.

 

The Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence was initiated in 1997-98 to recognize outstanding cricketers over the year.

 

Initiated in 1997-98, the Castrol Awards for Cricketing Excellence recognizes outstanding performances by Indian cricketers – past, present and future.
