Alastair Cook and Jonathan Trott remained unbeaten as they guided England to 158 for one at tea on day one of the first Test against South Africa at Kennington Oval.
After losing skipper Andrew Strauss in the first over of the match, both the batsmen displayed exemplary skill to negotiate the dangerous South Africa pace attack.
Cook and Trott batted cautiously to keep South Africa looking for the second breakthrough, adding 158 runs for the second wicket till tea.
England didn't lose a single wicket and both Cook and Trott went past their fifties.
