Sunil Gavaskar on Friday said dropping Virender Sehwag against Australia went against them during their embarrassing 9-wicket defeat in their first T20 World Cup Super Eight match at Colombo on Friday.
"Gautam Gambhir is a very good street smart cricketer. He has a very good understanding with Sehwag and so breaking their partnership was not a good idea. Sehwag has a fear factor against the opposition," Gavaskar was quoted saying by NDTV.
"Six or seven overs of Virender Sehwag can make a difference. He scores at at least more than 6 runs per over," said Gavaskar.
The former batsman was also not too enthusiastic about Piyush Chawla getting to play.
"Piyush Chawla since the 2011 World Cup has not figured anywhere in the Indian team has not even been in the back of any selectors mind. Why not go with Amit Mishra, what's wrong with Rahul Sharma.
“I sit in the commentary box and I look at his face and I hope to God, let him not be hit for a boundary."
