VVS Laxman’s mother, Dr V Satyabhama thanked Ian Chappell for giving the title of ‘Very Very Special’ to Laxman, who announced retirement from international cricket on Saturday.
“We must say ‘thank you’ to Chappell for giving this title to my son,” Dr V Satyabhama was quoted as saying by MiD-DAY.
“To us, our son is Very, Very Special because he is very modest and simple. He does not talk much and always respects elders. He prays twice-a-day and has all good qualities,” she added.
Both of Laxman’s parents are doctors. Laxman's father Dr V Shantharam is a respected physician in Hyderabad while his mother is a retired radiologist.
His mother said on Saturday at Hyderabad that had he not become a cricketer, he would have become a doctor also.
“Laxman took two days to decide his future. He had to appear for his Medical entrance exam and at the same time, he got a call to join the under-19 team in England. With his father’s consent, he decided to be a cricketer,” said Dr V Satyabhama.
