More than 300 school children from Kandy district gathered at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Sunday to celebrate a 100-day countdown to the T20 World Cup slated to be hosted by the island nation in September.

The event was organised by Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) along with the International Cricket Council (ICC). During the occasion, the SLC and the ICC donated 100 cricket bags amongst the girls and boys who competed in cricket match organised in Kandy.

ICC chief executive, Haroon Lorgat said: “We are now 100 days away from the first ICC World Twenty20 tournament in Asia.

“This year’s event promises to be even more explosive as player skills in the T20 format have expanded and cricket fans from around the world are dashing to be in Sri Lanka.”

The T20 World Cup will commence on September 18 in Colombo.
