Australian expat Tim Ryan found the experience of opening the batting at 2012 London Olympics ironic and amusing.

"I’ve managed to end up opening the batting - an Australian opening the batting in the British opening ceremony, I think it’s kind of ironic and amusing," Mr Ryan said.

"During rehearsals I’ve been told off a number of times for plonking it into the crowd but I’ve toned it right down for the dress rehearsals and obviously the opening night."

Lack of white shirts forced Ryan to be the only player to wear blue shirts making him highly visible to the crowd.

However, he was asked to keep his performance in the Olympics opening ceremony a closely guarded secret.

"It’s the most amazing thing I’ve ever done. It’s just so exciting ... they’ve done a brilliant job," he said.
