Burglars smashed shutters and doors of a Cricket club in Leeds, before cooking themselves a meal and running away with beers and wine.
Mrs Betty Chadderton, Amarnath Cricket Club treasurer, said, “We have had a number of break-ins over the years, but none in recent times. We thought it had stopped. Fortunately the burglars did not manage to get into the female showers, but they ripped out piping that goes all around the club house. They even made themselves a meal.”
Amarnath Cricket Club had upgraded their security after past burglary events. However, the thugs were able to break in through the shutters and wooden door and stole away heating pipes and fittings from the men’s showers.
The officials at the club now are making sure that the burglars aren’t able to steal valuable metals and stocks.
The break-in was discovered at half past eight in the morning after the weekend’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.
Stolen drinks and piping was found in a field with the wheelie bin. However, eight crates of lager were missing.
Home match against the Green Hammerton Club from North Yorkshire was cancelled due to the damage. Cost of repairs has been estimated somewhere around £4,000.
Amaranth Club was formed in late 1950s at a place which was formerly owned by Leeds Corinthians Club. Apart from cricket, Amarantha also plays soccer.
