India’s defeat has not gone down well all the Indian fans and also former Indian cricketers.
Former Indian wicket keeper Farooq Engineer who was present at Trent Bridge to watch the match was so disgusted with India’s performance that he decided to leave the stadium in protest after watching India’s fall of wickets. He was quoted in Hindustan Times as saying, “We have been outplayed in every department. Even Bangladesh put up a better fight here," said Engineer.

"We didn't look like an international side, let alone the world's No. 1 side. Ok, we lost Zaheer Khan, but you can't lose one player and say it's all over. We haven't shown any fighting spirit. We have come here with a hell of a reputation, but unfortunately we haven't produced goods on the field.

"That's why I am leaving early, there is only so much you can take, and it is hurting. The Englishmen's leg is up,"

Engineer said the No 1 tag has become embarrassing for the Indian team than a matter of pride and believes that captain MS Dhoni has lost his Midas touch as a captain.

"We came here as the No. 1 side in the world. Everyone was expecting a close encounter, but this is a walkover. Should we have lost the toss, things would have been a lot worse. They would have polished us off in three days. What has surprised many is the shoddy performance of Dhoni as a wicketkeeper. As a captain too, he's not his charismatic self.

"I am disappointed. He seems to have gone down terribly from the last time I saw him. Their experts are ridiculing him. They are asking me what's wrong with him," said disappointed Engineer. The body language of the India players was not there. The 'keeper needs to buck up the side, but everyone had their heads down. People here are asking: What are these guys calling themselves as the No 1 side in the world, they are a joke or what?"

Engineer also questioned the role of India’s high profile coaching staff.

"What are these highly-paid coaches doing? The results are not showing. What is Fletcher doing? Just because Gary Kirsten recommends him, is that sufficient to get the job?"
