Ryan Harris has lot of reasons to cheer for especially after a brilliant all-round performance which was instrumental in pulling out his team out of trouble which they eventually went on to win. However In an interview to a sports website Harris mentioned that he wasn’t even sure of playing the first test at Barbados.

At age 32, Harris is facing lot of competition and especially from James Pattinson who has been impressive in most of the test matches he has played and was overlooked for the first test in favor of Harris.

Harris has been injury-prone yet has managed to be picked by selectors whenever he’s available. He has been inconsistent in the side over the years due to various injuries

Since his debut in March 2012 against New Zealand, Harris first suffered from a knee-injury ahead of test against Pakistan in England. He made an impressive come-back when recalled for tests against England but suffered a hip injury in 2011 against South Africa. "I've woken up at night a few times thinking about things. But it has been a matter of clearing those bad thoughts from my mind." He said.

At Barbados Harris bowled 29 overs in the first innings and a mere 8 overs in the second. In both innings he bowled lesser overs compared to rest of the frontline bowlers in the team. Though it’s not an appropriate yard-stick always, but it does apply in Harris’ case. Considering the situation he was going into the first test he would be more than satisfied to last the entire series being a part of the pace attack.

In the 11 test matches he has played, Harris has picked up 47 wickets at an impressive average of 22.63 with two five wicket hauls.

Though the players featuring in the Australian pace attack have been fluctuating, each of them have stood upto the occasion and contributed handsomely. In such fierce competition Harris needs to be careful as there are plenty of options for his skipper and he very well knows how difficult it is to stage a comeback if you happen to be dropped from an Australian side.

A smart rotation policy might assist the Queenslander to sustain his performance and fitness for a few more years but he needs to hold on to it.
