Since 1996 the Aussies ahs been playing all the World Cup finals and Ponting has been a part of all of them. And two times he had been the captain of the side. The World Cup without Ponting will lose its colour.

In the Perth Test of the Ashes, Ponting hurt his left hand’s little finger and immediately he under went surgery keeping the World Cup in mind. He returned to training last week after a proper rehabilitation program. But there are still doubts whether Ponting would be able to be getting complete fitness before the World Cup. And even if he gets fit, will the long absence from cricket affect his batting?

The iron willed Ponting strongly believes that it will not affect his normal game. Before leaving for India on Wednesday Ponting told the journalists at the Sydney airport that there is not much pain and the amount of pain left will ebb away as the time progresses. While batting in the nets last week he didn’t fell any problems and which is a positive sign.

The Australian side has reached India yesterday with the aim of capturing the cup for the fourth time. The Aussies will play warm up matches against India and South Africa at Bengaluru. During the warm up matches Ponting’s pain will not remit but despite the pain he doesn’t want to miss the warm up matches. And for which he will wear a special guard in his injured finger for special protection. But for that Ponting has to sacrifice his favourite slip position.

Despite Ponting’s absence the Aussies managed to thrash England 6-1 in the ODI series. And for which Ponting praised his team highly.

Australia are so far unbeaten for 29 matches in the World Cup. Their campaign starts on 21st February against Zimbabwe at Ahmedabad.
