‘Catching a bat after 5 months in my hand. I had zero confidence when I came on the ground to bat’. These words came off the mouth of a batsman of stature of Sourav Ganguly. Though emotions never flew literally, it was all from his heart.

Sourav Ganguly, who has scored around 1031 runs in 3 seasons of IPL and apart from 2nd season of IPL scored commendably have had a strike rate of 117. A player of his caliber was left out of the 2011 IPL auctions. How was this even possible? The headlines read as ‘Ganguly went unsold’. And entire universe had just one expression. Astound! Even ShahRukh didn’t have a place in his team for Ganguly, Kolkata being his home-ground. He was ready to get him as a mentor, but who is done watching him bat?

When Ashish Nehra got injured and there were speculations of Sourav Ganguly replacing him in the Pune Warriors side, it was just an awe-inspiring moment for everyone around. Though I got extremely disappointed when he wasn’t selected for the match against Mumbai Indians.

But with Dada making a room for himself in the side against Kochi it was the moment most of the Indian were waiting for. When he entered the ground, there was a roar by the people watching him play. And when his side just needed runs at a steady rate, his counterparts trying to score runs lost their wickets. Dada, at the crease played a crucial innings with some effortless sixes and fours which helped his team cruise to an easy victory.

When he came onto the crease he had a point to prove. When he left the ground he had already proved it. You cannot stop a tiger from roaring unless he’s killed. Quite similar to Chris Gayle, both of them proved it in style. Other than the fact that, Dada didn’t need to play like a fanatic as he had to stabilize his innings without losing his wicket.

A man who has been considered god by many people, Ganguly had to plead a fan to get back to the stadium and let the game start back again. A man climbed the fence and ran to Ganguly in between the match just to touch his feet. That’s Dada for all of you!

But why did all this happen? Why wouldn’t the team owners select a player with caliber of Sourav Ganguly? Politics between BCCI and team owners? Can’t think of any better answer, but if such is the case, why is Dada targeted if he is the one who has been the foundation for the Indian team? The person who has led the team from the front and tried his best to make India win the cup & who has a huge hand in helping India win the cup this time around, don’t you think it’s just unfair to him?

As he said ‘It was the toughest day of my life’, it certainly was. But it was even tougher for his fans to not see him play in all through and would have been even more disappointed if they wouldn't have been allowed to see the man play again in this IPL.
