In 1989, a 16 year old Sachin Tendulkar played international cricket for the first time. His maiden tour was the sojourn to Pakistan.

Not many knew what to expect from the tyro. Some may have said that it was too early to play him at the highest level. However, Tendulkar didn't disapoint and only gained respect.

What the world saw on that tour was a glimpse of what was to come for the next two decades. Facing the fastest bowlers, the 16 year old showed the guts and grits to succeed.

The moment that signified that fight was when he was hit on the nose in the 4th and final Test of the tour at Sialkot. Despite the blow he kept batting and helped India save the Test match. In this video, he looks back at the episode and how it helped him shape himself for the highest level. Watch the great man talk about that experience that moulded his character.
