South Africa reached 277 for two at tea on the third day of the opening Test against England on Saturday.
Graeme Smith fell after scoring an impressive 131 as South Africa reduced the first innings deficit to 108 after centuries by Smith and Hashim Amla, who remained unbeaten on 131.
Smith's innings came to an end when he was bowled off Tim Bresnan, a few moments before tea, till which England bowlers kept trying for first breakthrough in the day.
Smith cracked 20 boundaries to score 131 off 273 balls, and added 259 runs for the second wicket with Amla to keep his side in control.
