After losing two wickets with 53 runs on board Pakistan found a much needed solid partnership in Misbah-ul-Haq and Azhar Ali. However the duo failed to gather quick runs as the run-rate kept on mounting.
The Pakistan skipper departed in the 38th over having added 103 runs in 143 balls with Azhar.
Soon after, a pathetic display of batting saw Pakistan batsmen falling one after the other handing Thisara Perera his first hat-trick in international cricket with wickets of Younis Khan, Shahid Afridi and Sarfaraz Ahmed. A dismal scorecard of the visitors featured five ducks in the innings which lasted for 45 overs.
Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardene won toss and opted to bat first. Both teams came into the match with unchanged sides.
