After hitting a half-century in the first innings, Akram slammed a fluent 123 off 195 balls, hitting 18 boundaries and a six to help Pakistan post a total of 387 in their second essay.
In the second essay, Akram added 191 runs with Imran Khan to put Pakistan ahead of the hosts. Akram batted for 244 minutes to get to his maiden Test century.
The left-handed flamboyant Pakistan all-rounder was dismissed by Australia bowler Greg Campbell, who had taken three wickets in the first innings of Pakistan.
