Senior cricketers in Pakistan are always given a shabby treatment. The latest is the case of Mohammad Yousuf who was not selected for the World Cup squad apparently on fitness grounds. More than his World Cup exclusion, his statement in the Daily Times newspaper sounds perfectly justified. Yousuf had said in the newspaper that it is pointless for senior players to announcement retirement in Pakistan cricket because the Pakistan Cricket Board gives such harsh treatment that most of the time senior pros fade away or are either forced to fade away.
The PCB must take a long hard look on this aspect and learn to respect senior players and give them an honourable send-off rather than treating them shabbily. I full agree with Yousuf that it makes little difference to the cricket board whether a senior player is retiring or not.
