Shenwari: It was a whole team effort and not just mine. Our coach believed in us and my job was to perform well for our team. Asgar and I decided to spend ample time in the middle and that helped us score some big runs towards the end. My leg breaks are working well because of the hard work I put in at the nets and with the help of our coach, I am doing well.
Shenwari is the Man of the Match for his brilliant knock of 81 and 1/23 with the ball.
Nabi:'This is our first win against a Test playing nation. We had a good partnership and our bowlers responded well when needed. We dropped lot of catches, but we won the game. In the last 10 overs, Hamid got injured and I had kept our strike bowlers towards the end. This is a big moment for Afghanistan cricket and we would like to perform like this on a consistent basis'.
Rahim:'They outplayed us in all 3 departments. We conceded more runs towards the end as we were one bowler short. We lost too many wickets in the batting powerplay and that's where we lost the game. The bowling was ok, but our batters let us down. We are under pressure as we don't have Shakib and Tamim in the side. The crowd always come to support us and hopefully we will do well at Mirpur'.
A famous win by Afghanistan, their first in the Asia Cup and they have virtually knocked the hosts out of the tournament. This was a spirited performance from them and even though they had a miserable day on the field, they have managed to win the match. This is their first against a Test playing nation and this win should encourage them to do well. Bangladeshi death bowling was below average and they leaked easy runs and that allowed Afghanistan to put up a decent total. Zapoor struck in the very first over of the 2nd innings and Bangladesh had a terrible start losing another one in the 2nd over. Rahim and Mominul stitched an important 3rd wicket stand, but once they were dismissed the middle order didn't play sensibly and threw their wickets away. Afghanistani bowlers stuck to a tight line and length, but they were let down by their fielders. If they improve on their catching and ground fielding, they are a side to look-out for in the future.
