India vs Pakistan, 6th ODI Match, Asia Cup, 2014

Commentary

Pakistan won by 1 wkt | India Vs Pakistan Live Score, 6th ODI Match

Oh boy! Another pulsating clash. This Asia Cup never ceases to thrill us. Sri Lanka edged home in the opening game, the spirited Afghans floored Bangladesh yesterday. Tonight, Aridi starred in his attacking avatar to help Pakistan pip their arch-enemies at the post, leaving India's slender semi-final hopes in the balance. Do join us when Sri Lanka clash with Afghanistan. Can Nabi and his boys extend their romantic story? We will be expecting your warm company tomorrow. Until then, take care, adois!
Mohammad Hafeez: 'First of all, thanks to almighty Allah. The way we won that game was terrific. The role given to me was that of a Number 3 batsman. Things are working for me and I am happy. Whenver there is a left hander, the captain calls me to bowl with the new ball. I am happy to fo it for Pakistan. We lost four early wickets but we were looking to play normal cricket. At the end, Shahid Afridi with his magnetic episode finished it off. I thank the crowd and dedicate this win for the Pakistan people'.
Mohammad Hafeez is the Man of the Match for his all-round show: 2-38 with the ball followed by a composed 75 with the bat.
Misbah: ' It was an important win for us. It was labeled that we were bad chasers. It was a wonderful partnership between Hafeez and Maqsood and the Afridi finished it off. There was dew, we anted to take it to the finish. Afridi is a player who can hit 2-3 sixes in an over. I am not thninking about the final. We are just thinking about the next game. That is also important'.
Kohli: 'The idea was not to let them get used to one bowler in particular. I think the guys put in a great effort and I am proud of that. I had left Mishra for the last few overs, I held Jadeja as well. Ashwin was confident of bowling the last over and that's why Shami and Bhuvi bowled ahead of him. We were a few runs short on that wicket. 20-30 short, 260-270 would have been competitive. It's been a learning curve for me as a captain. It's a young team and it's pleasing to see the effort.'
Just when India were tightening the noose around, Maqsood and Hafeez mastermined a pragmatic stand worth 87 to keep Pakistan afloat. Bhuvi engineered a double strike from in the penultimate over but Shahid Afridi's BOOM BOOM fireworks saw Pakistan wrap up the win with back to back biggies. Do stick around fellas, Presentation to follow shortly.
What is an India-Pakistan clash if not for the twists and turns. Sharjeel Khan and Shehzad, essaying busy batsmanship gave Pakistan an ideal launch pad. But then India's spinners struck back to restore parity to the proccedings. The middle order, barring Hafeez, blacked out against Ashwin's variations and Mishra's guile.
Afridi: 'I was really under pressure. I was not doing well in the last two games, I played bad shots as well. Expectation was high on me, thankfully I delivered. The captain was always talking to me about playing myself in. This time I tried to take my time and it worked. The thing is we all know whenever we are playing India it's always a great occasion for us. I am very happy. Gul was talking a lot with me. The thing was that we just wanted to rotate strike. When we arrived here, our goal was to win this competition. It's very important for us, we all know where we are standing at the moment. We thank the Bangladeshi crowd as well for supporting us.'
49.4 Ravichandran Ashwin to Shahid Afridi 6
SIX, Afridi seals this thriller for Pakistan. He pulls off his signature star-man pose and lets out a primeval roar before being mobbed by his team-mates. This was tossed up, Afridi winds up for another power-packed swing. He manages the hit only off the toe-end of the bat but it clears the long-on ropes
30 runs for Shahid Afridi
49.3 Ravichandran Ashwin to Shahid Afridi 6
SIX, up, up and over deep extra cover. This was tossed up and outside off, Afridi muscles it with all his might, the ball just has enough legs to sail over the man in the deep despite Afridi not middling it as well as he would have liked
49.2 Ravichandran Ashwin to Junaid Khan 1
1 run, pushed through quicker on the hips, Junaid Khan nudges it to square leg for a single
Junaid Khan, right handed bat, comes to the crease
49.1 Ravichandran Ashwin to Saeed Ajmal W
out Bowled!! Ashwin, you beauty! He bowls Ajmal round the legs. This was the carrom flicker delivery again, on middle and leg, Ajmal tries to manufacture the sweep but does not get any bat on to it, the ball crashes on to the stumps. Ajmal b Ashwin 0(1)
3 wickets for Ravichandran Ashwin. Ravichandran Ashwin is on a roll.
Saeed Ajmal, right handed bat, comes to the crease
Ravichandran Ashwin [9.0-0-31-2] is back into the attack
