India vs Australia, 4th Test , Australia tour of India 2013
India won by 6 wktsInnings Comparison, Man of the match: R Jadeja
That's about all we have for you today. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Hope you did too. Do hop tabs to catch the action from the South Africa-Pakistan ODI. Cheers and goodbye for now.
Dhoni walks up to collect the Border-Gavaskar trophy from the two great men themselves. As is his wont, Dhoni hands over the trophy to a youngster. It's Vijay's turn today.
MS Dhoni: 'It was an important series for us. It was a good thing that there were a few changes to the side. There were some brilliant individual performances. Ashwin, Vijay, Dhawan and Jadeja did very well. We batted 2nd always and we all know how difficult it is to bat 4th in India. I thought yesterday was more difficult to bat on this track than today. I may be wrong. Credit to the support staff. The last 1 or 2 years has not been great for us in Tests. They showed a lot of character. It's the end of the season for us. We get some time off national duties before the Champions trophy. Ishant was a bit angry that the crowd here wanted Virat to get out because they wanted to see Sachin to come out. The crowd everywhere has been fantastic and they came out to support us well.'
Ashwin: 'Everything went pretty well. I had to do some changes after the England series. My delivery stride was too long. It went haywire during the course of the England series. I was lucky to have a coach who identified it quickly. Credit also to Duncan Fletcher and Joe Dawes. I needed a kick on the backside and I got one. It was quite a tricky wicket. I think Pujara deserves a lot of credit today. He played a fantastic innings. I thought Jadeja deserved the MoM today. It was a superb 2nd spell from him today. He knows what he's doing and troubled a lot of the frontline Aussie batsmen.'
No surprises as Ashwin is declared the Man of the series. He picked up 29 wickets in the 4 Tests.
Jadeja: 'The wicket was helping the spinners. I just wanted to do well and glad I did. Unfortunately, I did not get many runs but I bowled very well in this series. I just tried to bowl in the right areas. I played my natural shots. I was happy with the way I batted yesterday. Ashwin bowled very well throughout the series. We hope to continue in the same way.'
The Man of the Match is Ravindra Jadeja for his all-round show. He picked 43 runs and 7 wickets.
Watson: 'It was a hardcore Test match. We certainly gave everything we had. Things did not go exactly how we wanted to but credit to the guys. We thought that 150-200 on that wicket was a tough one. We did not bowl exactly where we wanted to. The wickets have been very different to the ones at home. We are learning. We hope to continue to do so. We were looked after very well. It is more enjoyable if you are winning. It's a pleasure to come here and play.'
We'ready for the presentations now.
Interesting Stats reminder 5: Michael Clarke became the first captain to lose a match after declaring in the first innings. In the Test at Deccan, Australia declared at 237/9 only to lose that match by an innings.
Interesting Stats reminder 4: Nathan Lyon's haul of 7/94 was the fourth best haul by a foreign spinner in India. The best haul by a spinner in India is also by an Australian, Jason Krejza, 8/215 at Nagpur in 2008.
Interesting Stats reminder 3: This is the first time in Test history that a No.9 batsman has scored back to back fifties in a match. Peter Siddle achieved this feat today.
Interesting Stat reminder 2: Shikhar Dhawan's 187 is the second highest score for a debutant against Australia in Test cricket. The highest is by Tip Foster who scored 287 for England against Australia at the SCG in 1903.
Interesting Stats reminder: Dhoni's 224 is the highest ever score by an Indian wicket-keeper in Tests. He is also the only Indian wicket-keeper to score a double ton.
For India, Pujara and Vijay scored over 400 runs in this series. Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 29 and 24 wickets respectively. The whole team performed as a unit, whereas Australia were plagued by injuries, reports of a fractured dressing room due to the homework gate scandal and lack of aggression. In every which way you look at it, India have demolished Australia.
