Commentary
That's all we have for you tonight. Hope you enjoyed the coverage.
Suresh Raina: 'Me and Rohit were trying to be positive. We had a good partnership. God has been kind, I was lucky in the middle. I got an opportunity and did well for the team. I was putting great effort in the nets, thanks to my coaches. Rohit was batting really well, he is a middle order batsman, but showed the character at the top of the order. Sachin had told us that we need to be number 1 fielding side. We have worked hard with Trevor Penny.'
Suresh Raina is the Man of the Match
MS Dhoni: 'Overall it was a good performamce. We were good with the new ball. Most of the teams will look to save wickets in the first 10 overs. If you see with the fielders up, before the last 10 overs, we did really well. Even if the opposition gets 260, it is still gettable. Rohit Sharma is one of the most gifted cricketers. Unfortunately he hasn't done well. It is a shame if he can't do well. He is a natural puller. He batted really well. It was great to see that once he got to 50, he wanted to convert it into a big hundred. All the wickets except Ranchi had decent bounce. Glad that we won the series on sporting tracks.'
Cook: 'I think the partnership between Raina and Rohit Sharma was great. We couldn't stop the momentum. To get so close we did really well. It did nip around quite a lot during our innings. We knew that we could get to 250-260 if we played well in the last 10 overs. Joe Root is good at mowing the ball around. The way he handles himself on the field is great.'
Stat alert: With this win, MS Dhoni goes past Sourav Ganguly's total of 76 ODI wins. Azharuddin has 90, the only Indian captain ahead of Dhoni.
Rohit Sharma: ' I came to know (of my inclusion) today morning and I was prepared to open. We needed to build a few partnerships. Suresh finished it really well. Depends on the management (replying to a question if he wants to open in future). Feels happy to play a good knock in a series-clinching victory.
It has been a professional batting performance from India. Rohit Sharma surprised one and all by responding to his skipper's call. He played a lot of wonderful strokes and missed out on a well-deserved hundred, courtesy a poor decision. England will rue the missed chance when Raina was caught at slip, but Finn had knocked off the bails and it was called a dead ball. Raina was on 42 then and it could have been the turning point. As far as the England bowling is concerned, it was Tredwell again who chipped in with the wickets. But Dernbach and Bresnan could do little. Except Finn, all the bowlers were expensive which did not help.
Raina is ecstatic. Why wouldn't he be. He has played a composed knock just when the team needed it the most. Dhoni is out on the field, he is all smiles.
