India vs England, 4th Test, England tour of India 2012-13

Commentary

Match drawn | India Vs England Live Score, 4th Test

That brings an end to an engrossing series. A shame that the last match was a drab draw but nevertheless England will walk off proudly as the deserving winners. We enjoyed bringing all the action. Hope you did too. The first of the two T20s between these teams begins on 20th of this month. There is also action from the last day of the first Test between Australia and Sri Lanka tomorrow. Join us for that. Cheers and goodbye.
Cook lifts the trophy with a smile and walks on to pose for the photographs with his team. Just wide smiles. No wild celebrations.
Cook: 'It's a special day, a special tour for us. Today was really good. Trott batted very calmly and it was a fantastic effort. We thought that batting would become more difficult later in the game but it actually got better. The batsmen fronted up and took on the challenge. Everyone in this squad can be really proud of what they have achieved. I can't ask any more from any member of this team. The way they came back after the loss in the first Test was just superb. It's nice when it goes well. I want to thank the back-room staff. I want to thank all the fans who came to watch us, not only the Barmy Army but the Indian public as well.'
No surprises as Alastair Cook is the MoS.
Anderson: 'We really wanted to show the people what we can do and we have. Reverse swing has been a key part in the series. We worked on it in the nets and executed it well. We get a lot of rest as well with the spinners bowling long spells. We have really enjoyed the tour here. I'd like to thank the fans who have travelled to cheer us. For fast bowlers going into the last spell at the end of the day, it's been a great help.'
James Anderson is the MoM for his four wickets.
MS Dhoni: 'We struggled in the batting department. I think our spinners were right on the mark. I think the difference between the two sides was James Anderson. I think he bowled really well. The batsmen have to take responsibility for not putting enough runs on the board. We have to be on our toes on a track that turns. Cook batted really well. As this game progressed, there was not much for the bowlers. The third day evening was the best for the spinners to bowl. I think this Test match would have certainly been a draw. We needed two or three more days for a result. We are still trying to get the bowling combination. We wanted a part time bowler to bowl a lot of overs. We brought in Jadeja to do something like that. Pujara batted really well. So did Kohli and Gambhir.'
Everyone contributed at some part of the series for England. The only sore point could be the bowling of Tim Bresnan. On the other hand, there was very little India could be proud of. The batting apart from Pujara was simply a let down. In fact a valid case can be made to drop every member of the squad with the probable exception of Pujara.
This is the first Test series loss for India at home in eight years. Their previous loss was in 2004-05 against Australia. A lot of introspection will probably be done. A few heads could roll too. The loss at home will hurt them a lot more than the infamous 0-8 overseas.
What a series it has been for captain Cook. It was his first as a full time skipper. He came into lead the team in the aftermath of the KP fiasco but all that would have been forgotten by now. Pietersen himself was right in the middle of the joyous celebrations.
Great scenes in the England dressing room. There are hugs all around and tremendous happiness in general. Cook leads the team out and shakes hands with the Indian players and the umpires. Dharmasena has a few words with Cook as well, probably saying sorry for the wrong decision.
That's it. The match has ended in a draw. And England are celebrating. What a moment! The last time they won a series in India was in 1984/85. Not many gave them a chance to do that here but they've proven everyone wrong with a brilliant performance.
