Kings XI Punjab vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, 59th T20 Match IPL 2013

Commentary

Hyderabad won by 30 runs | Kings XI Punjab Vs Sunrisers Hyderabad Live Score, 59th Match

This is Punjab's last game at this venue. Their remaining two home games will be played in Dharamsala. That is all from us here. Join us for the double header tomorrow. The first match features Kolkata and Bangalore from Ranchi. The second match features the clash between Rajasthan and Chennai. Bye Bye!
Parthiv Patel: 'I was told to hang in there till the 15th and 16th over. 130-140 was a par score but it was a difficult wicket to bat on. We wanted to get past 140 to give the bowlers a score to defend. When Thisara Perera came, we knew that he could hit sixes. One of the top order batsman had to stay with him. We have not scored over 160 on a consistent basis. We hope to put on a good show against Mumbai.'
Parthiv Patel is the MoM for his 61.
White: 'It has been the tale of our season. We have fighting all the way and defending it. There was seam movement but Parthiv and Thisara Perera played very well. 150 was an even score. Once we got through the top six, we knew that we could win. We have to win the remaining games to stay in contention for the knock-outs.'
Gilchrist: 'Parthiv Patel played well on a wicket that was doing something. We were in control but we failed to deliver the knock-out punch. Thisara came towards the end and changed the course of the match. There was some extra bounce as the game progressed but we should have got this target. Shaun Marsh dominated from the start but the Hyderabad bowler's variations made us hard. We will look to play for pride and spoil other people's party.'
Sammy: 'It was a good outing and the team showed a never-say-die attitude. Parthiv played well and our bowlers bowled well on this wicket. Waqar Younis told me to bowl on a good length and to keep it on a Test match length. When we saw how the ball was moving around, we thought 135-140 would be a great score. Once we keep doing well in this tournament, we will be in a good position for the knock-outs.'
Steyn got going by taking the wicket of Mandeep. Gilchrist and Shaun Marsh build a decent partnership before Sammy's double strike in his first over stalled Punjab. Sathish tried some big hits but Pomersbach struggled to get going. The asking rate mounted and the lower-middle order struggled. Sammy picked up four wickets and Hyderabad sealed victory by 30 runs.
The mid-table scramble is now a direct shoot-out between Hyderabad and Bangalore. This win has ensured that Hyderabad stay in contention for the knock-outs while Punjab are almost on their way out.
