Mumbai Indians vs Kolkata Knight Riders, 1st T20 Match, IPL 2014

Commentary

Kolkata won by 41 runs | Mumbai Indians Vs Kolkata Knight Riders Live Score, 1st T20 Match

Kolkata's bowling proved to be too hot for Mumbai tonight. Do join us for the second game tomorrow, pitting Delhi against Bangalore. Cheers for your company. Goodbye for now.
Kallis: 'I started afresh. It's a fun few months. It's time to catch up with some friends. There was more bounce on the wicket than we are normally used to. It was a good wicket though. We got through the new ball and cashed in at the death. Sunil was unbelievable with the ball. I am playing less cricket, so I can put my body on the line. I do not have too many years left, I just want to have some fun.'
Jacques Kallis is the Man of the Match for his well-paced 72.
Gautam Gambhir: 'We wanted to put runs on the board. We have the bowling. A quality batter like Jacques knows when to acclelerate. There are a few stroke-players as well. Morkel has pace and bounce, we have Shakib and Sunil. We also have a balanced attack. If we bowl well, we will win on most days.'
Rohit Sharma: 'The way we played today was disappointing. There were not much positives out of the game but I hope the guys take the positives and enjoy each others's company. We did not pick up wickets when we wanted. They (Kolkata) went after the bowling with 8 wickets in hand. There are a few things to learn from this game. I hope the boys pick it up. The odd balls were stopping and coming. Overall, the wicket played well but we did not bat well.'
Convincing victory for Kolkata. They look to have the bowlers for these conditions. Mumbai never got going, Mike Hussey struggled right from the start and was castled by the impressive Sunil Narine. Ambatti Rayudu and Rohit Sharma tried to take control during the middle overs, but the required rate kept on shooting upwards. Both fell attempting the big shots, Pollard and Anderson had too much to do. Morne Morkel was very impressive at the start as he tied down the batsmen, Kallis and Chawla were useful while Narine was a class of his own.
