New Zealand vs India, 4th ODI, India tour of New Zealand 2014

Commentary

New Zealand won by 7 wkts | New Zealand Vs India Live Score, 4th ODI

The series is already gone and India will be playing for pride at Wellington on Friday. Captain MS Dhoni eyed this series as a great preparation for the 2015 World Cup to be played in the Trans-Tasman countries but not too sure if everything has gone according to plan. Anyway, looking forward to your company for the final ODI. Take care! Goodbye!

Tom Moody tweets: New Zealand will be a team to be reckoned with in 2015 #ICC World Cup as India are experiencing!! #NZvInd
Bishen Bedi tweets: NZealand deserving winners/they wr better prepared/more commited sans 'greentops'!Let's salute Kiwis flying away w/all the glory graciously!
Lawrence Booth tweets: In 16 ODIs since their tour of Zimbabwe, India have conceded 300+ eight times, and at least 280 on another five occasions...
Here are a few tweets.
Taylor: 'I worked hard on my off-side play. I was predominantly a bottom-hand player and I am working on using the top-hand more. It worked well for me tonight. Kane has been exceptional over a period of time now and the partnership with him was crucial. I always like to play and I am not looking for a break in the next game. Hopefully the baby can hold on for a bit more longer (talking about the impending birth of his child).'
Ross Taylor is the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 112.
McCullum: 'The conditions here were suited more to India than us but I thought our bowlers started brilliantly. They came back well but that target was a par score I thought and then Rosco batted very well. Mills was outstanding, he gives the opportunity to give a chance to a youngster. Neesham bowled well today. The partnerships in the series have been good. We'll enjoy this series win tonight. It doesn't come easily against the No. 1 side.'
Dhoni: 'We have struggled at the top. Last game was one when we got going but this time again we struggled. The start is crucial as it puts pressure on the middle and lower-orders and it didn't work well today. This was a wicket where you don't want to bowl short and wide, I think we consistently did that. I think we didn't really bowl well. The spinners bowled though, they hit the right areas but the fast bowlers gave away too many runs. Even though we have not got great partnerships going we have been scoring quickly. We need a set batsman to carry on. Rohit got out today. Most batsmen got starts but didn't get going.'
One must reserve special praise for both Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor. The former brought up his fourth fifty of the series on the trot and the latter played the ideal ODI innings, eschewing risks and playing percentage cricket. Ross was outstanding on the off-side and his late-cutting off Jadeja was exemplary. Aaron helped him with dross and he didn't let that go unpunished as well, showing off his fierce cutting skills. A special moment for him as he brought up his hundred in front of his adoring home crowd. The presentation will be up anytime soon, so do stay tuned for all the quotes.
So the No. 1 side before the series started, has fallen to the No. 8 side. Shows that you can never underestimate a side who are a) in great form coming into the series and b) when they are playing in their home conditions. If one has to be harsh, the series should've been over at Eden Park and India should've been down 0-4 after today, but whichever way you look at it - this is a harsh lesson that the visitors have been taught by a confident home side.
Nothing much to be said about the Indian bowling, except for the spinners, the others never looked like taking a wicket. Aaron in particular looked pretty ordinary as he fed the Kiwis with short and wide stuff outside off. That left too much for the spin duo to do and once the Kiwis had decided to play them with caution, the game was done from an Indian perspective. Dhoni tried some unusual things like giving Binny just the one over and bringing on Rayudu to bowl, but those remained just unusual and nothing worked.
