South Africa vs New Zealand, 1st ODI, New Zealand tour of South Africa 2012-13

Commentary

New Zealand won by 1 wkt | South Africa Vs New Zealand Live Score, 1st ODI

That is all from us here. Join us for the match between Australia and Sri Lanka tomorrow. Until then, bye bye!
Presentation Ceremony:
Franklin: 'It is a nice way to come back. This was a massive game for us. The next couple of games are going to be hard for us. I was trying to bat as deep as possible. Nathan and Kyle (Mills) showed great character with the bat. There is room for improvement and we will be training hard for the next game at Kimberly. Mills has been a clean striker of the ball and we all know that he is a big hitter.'
James Franklin is the MoM for his 1/44 and his unbeaten 47 which helped NZ win a close match.
Brendon McCullum: 'It is an incredibly satisfying feeling. We showed a lot of fight today. A couple of experienced people got us over the line. The top order is an area of concern and we have to improve. There are a couple of areas in the field where we have to improve. We will enjoy this victory. McClenaghan has shown that he steams in and looks to take wickets. He was outstanding. We are a more confident ODI unit and we came up against a strong South African team in the Tests. We managed to show character and strength to get over the line. Special mention to James Franklin thanks to his contributions with both bat and ball.'
de Villiers: 'We were not our best today. We have to play better in the next ODI. It was a good game of cricket but New Zealand came out on top. The top order has to score runs but we put pressure on the lower order. I am feeling much better without the gloves and I had a lot of time to communicate with the guys. Faf du Plessis is in wonderful form. Ryan McLaren has been a very consistent performer but unfortunately, we could not get over the line. I am sorry to have disappointed the fans.'
This is New Zealand's first victory in an ODI match since August. They won the third ODI against the West Indies at St. Kitts. After that, they have lost two against the Windies and three against the Lankans.
Thanks to New Zealand's victory here, India are now the new No.1 ranked team in ODIs. Nice way for India to celebrate it with a thumping win over England in Ranchi.
On another note, we would like to apologize for the loss of commentary during the middle overs of the match. There were frequent power-cuts at Paarl and there was no feeds available from the host broadcasters. The technical difficulties from the source are regretted.
Phew. What a chase this has been. New Zealand got off to a horrid start as the top order once again capitulated. BJ Watling and Brendon McCullum got going thanks to a gritty partnership. However, in the middle overs, they once again stuttered before Nathan McCullum played a nice cameo. The 47 run stand for the 9th wicket between Kyle Mills and James Franklin got NZ closer to the target. In the end, Mitchell McClenaghan managed to survive and Franklin scored the winning runs as they won the first ODI at Paarl by one wicket. Stay with us for the presentations.
