South Africa won by an innings and 27 runsInnings Comparison, Man of the match: V Philander
Commentary
Thanks for joining us today. Do continue to follow us for all the upcoming games. Cheers and goodbye for now.
Philander: 'I would just like to take this wicket away with me wherever I go. I love it. Teams always analyse me. The more you change your tactics, the more they play into my hands. I've changed slightly from what I started off. I now take off a lot closer from the stumps. I think my garage is getting a lot smaller now with all these trophies.'
Vernon Philander is the Man of the Match for his splendid spell of 5/7 in the first innings.
Graeme Smith: 'We had such a terrific morning session, to bowl them out for 45. We were always ahead after that. We need to carry on in PE. Vernon knows his game really well. If there is something in the wicket he picks it up very quickly. It's nice to have him with his intensity. Alviro batted well. His 100 was key. It was not an easy time to bat on. Out catching has been excellent throughout over the last few years. This has been a little disappointing but we need to get back to that high standards. Both Kallis and Steyn are high class performers. I have lost words to describe them. They are huge assets to the side.'
Brendon McCullum: 'We were outplayed in all facets of the game. Vernon bowled exceptionally well. We were not quite up to the challenge. I'm pleased with yesterday's fightback. Had we put in a good first innings effort after surviving the first few hours as we did in the 2nd, the cracks might have come into play and helped us. Brownlie played a fantastic innings under trying circumstances. He can take a lot of heart from that. Overall though it's a very disappointed dressing room. We need to take the lessons and smooth out the rough edges in the next game. I think the bowling was patchy on the first day. I thought yesterday was really good. We managed to take 5/90.'
New Zealand had little to cheer about. The batting of Dean Brownlie was a definite plus. Watling's battling effort could give them some heart but there was nothing else. The batting was simply no match for the opposition's bowling. They will need to dig deep to find the courage and battle it out in the upcoming Tests.
South Africa have just launched an emphatic statement by this ruthless win. The bowling was fiery and set up the big win. Vernon Philander was outstanding throughout. Steyn brought in all his fury to ensure that South Africa completed an innings win.

out Chris Martin Run Out!! 1 run completed. The running was borderline comedy. Martin turns back for the second after Boult called for it but Steyn had fired in a quick throw to the keeper. Martin was too lazy to turn back. He had a lot of time but was still caught short by a couple of yards. Boult had helped a full delivery down to fine leg, there could have been a second with better running. South Africa complete the hammering and take a 1-0 lead with that. Chris Martin run out (Steyn/de Villiers) 0(0)
Looks like there has been a run out. South Africa are already celebrating.

out Bowled!! Steyn finally gets his man. The short delivery does it. Franklin moved outside off to try and pull it on the onside but it hits his glove and falls down onto the bails. Steyn is all pumped up. Franklin b Steyn 22(59) [4s-2]
