South Africa vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I, New Zealand tour of South Africa 2012-13

Commentary

NZ won by 8 wickets (D/L method) | South Africa Vs New Zealand Live Score, 2nd T20I

That ends our coverage. Hope you enjoyed following us. We sure did, bringing it to you. Bye bye!
Guptill: 'I had a good hit at the nets and was feeling good and relaxed. Hoping for more of such knocks, we have a must win game coming up and hopefully we can do as well as we did today. It's similar to the situation we had last summer back home, going into the final game with the series level. It's make or break for us.'
Guptill is the Man of the Match
McCullum: 'Credit to the strength of the team to fight back and lift the spirits. Guptill was brilliant, I'm proud of the way he batted. We bowled pretty well, it was a good surface and the outfield was fast. We needed a couple of partnerships and we got that. Nicol's contribution at the top was important as well. The other day, we were over-aggressive and put under pressure early on. Today we stuck to our plans and that was good to see. It's good to bounce back after being under pressure, this isn't a one-off game for us. We have to carry it into the next match and the rest of the series.'
du Plessis: 'I thought we had enough runs on the board but there was too much dew. It was tough for our spinners. We had a couple of catching opportunities but it's not the easiest catching conditions here, it was difficult. I'm very happy with the batting. It happens though, when someone scores a hundred like that, there's nothing much you can do. It's a learning experience for me, I'm enjoying the challenge. We didn't play a bad game. We were just outplayed by a superb knock. 9 times out of 10, when someone scores a hundred, that teams wins.'
Almost a one man show, that. New Zealand's innings was all about Guptill. Nicol and Brendon McCullum played their part and gave good support to Guptill as he flayed the South African attack. He hit as many as six 6s and was particularly harsh on the spinners - Peterson and Phangiso. The wet ball made it even more difficult for the Protea bowlers but they missed a few chances as well. In the end, it was a well deserved victory for New Zealand. The series is now squared at 1-1.
End of over 19, 11 runs (1 1 2 2 1 4 )
NZ: 169/2

(4.0 - 0 - 35 - 0)
18.6 Rory Kleinveldt to Martin Guptill 4
FOUR, oh yes! WHAT A GAME! Guptill has absolutely stunned South Africa here. He has won it for New Zealand and has also got to his CENTURY with that boundary. This is what happened: Kleinveldt bowled it full and outside off, Guptill waited for it and lofted it over extra cover, there was nobody in the deep and the ball sped away. Guptill is pumped up, he punches the air and removes his helmet even as Munro hugs him from behind. Superb game.
100 runs for Martin Guptill
4 from 1. Guptill on 97. Can he win it for NZ and get his century?
18.5 Rory Kleinveldt to Colin Munro 1
1 run, short and wide outside off, Munro chases and slashes it to third man, Guptill will take the strike for the last ball
5 from 2. Guptill is on 97, but off strike. What a match.
18.4 Rory Kleinveldt to Colin Munro 2
2 runs, they're running for everything! This was dragged down to deep mid wicket, Munro runs hard and sprints back to take the strike. Exciting moments this!
18.3 Rory Kleinveldt to Colin Munro 2
2 runs, superb running between the wickets! This was full in length again, C Munro drives it down to long off, Guptill is super-quick and makes it back for 2
18.2 Rory Kleinveldt to Martin Guptill 1
1 run, just a single! Guptill and C Munro wanted 2 but they get only 1. Guptill hits it powerfully to long on, the fielder was very quick and there was no way he would have had 2 there
18.1 Rory Kleinveldt to Colin Munro 1
1 run, good delivery - full and straight, Munro flicks it away to deep mid wicket for a single
Rory Kleinveldt [3.0-0-24-0] is back into the attack
