India vs Pakistan, 1st ODI, Pakistan in India 2012-13

Commentary

Pakistan won by 6 wkts | India Vs Pakistan Live Score, 1st ODI

Thanks for joining us today. A good, closely fought contest to end the year. Both teams travel to Kolkata for the 2nd ODI. That's on January 3rd. Do join us for that. Wishing you a great year ahead from everyone here. Cheers and goodbye for now.
MS Dhoni: 'I think I'll have a hot shower. It was a long day. Quite satisfied with my batting but it was a bad toss to lose. I think there was something for the fast bowlers. They pitched it in the right areas. I think that's where we lost the plot. It was about getting to a respectable score. We had only Ashwin coming in after us so Raina and I delayed the slog a bit. I think 227 was good from where we started but it was not enough. Overall I think we did not have enough runs on the board.'
The Man of the Match is MS Dhoni despite his hundred in a losing cause.
Misbah ul Haq: 'It was a really good toss to win. The spell of Junaid Khan was excellent. We knew he was capable of doing it. He did it in the Test against Sri Lanka at Pallekele. It was good that they were pitching the balls in the right area. I think there was some change in the nature of the pitch. All credit to MS. He batted superbly and almost single-handedly took the game away but Jamshed batted well to finish it. He finished the game. That is really good to see. Both the teams were struggling with the humidity. From both teams the fast bowlers should get credit.'
Just a point to ponder, Pakistan have never lost a match in Chennai. They have played two ODIs and won both. They have drawn two Tests and won one. So, Pakistan have established Chepauk as their fortress.
Pakistan take a 1-0 lead in the series. Deservingly too. India did well to fight back from some tight situations. Dhoni did it with the lower order when they batted. Bhuvaneshwar Kumar led the way with the ball. They would lay some blame on a crucial umpiring error when Jamshed was adjudged not out on 24. Ashwin was guilty of overstepping and missed out on a wicket in the process. Yuvraj dropped Jamshed on 68. There was a flicker of hope for India when Ishant Sharma sent back Misbah-ul-Haq but Shoaib Malik steadied the ship. Jamshed went past his second ODI ton and helped Pakistan coast to a win.
End of over 49, 4 runs (4 )
PAK: 240/4
Shoaib Malik - 36(37) This over: 4 runs
Nasir Jamshed - 110(140) This over: 0 runs
Ashok Dinda
(9.2 - 0 - 46 - 1)
48.1 Ashok Dinda to Shoaib Malik 4
FOUR, Shoaib Malik finishes it in style. A short delivery from Dinda. Malik stands up tall and pulls it hard and flat to the deep mid wicket fence. Convincing victory for Pakistan but they were made to work hard for it.
End of over 48, 3 runs (. 1 . . 1 1 )
PAK: 236/4
Shoaib Malik - 32(36) This over: 2 runs
Nasir Jamshed - 110(140) This over: 1 runs
Ishant Sharma
(10.4 - 0 - 40 - 1)
47.6 Ishant Sharma to Shoaib Malik 1
1 run, on the middle and leg, Malik turns it down to deep square leg for one
47.5 Ishant Sharma to Nasir Jamshed 1
1 run, dug in short again, Jamshed pulls it wide of fine leg for an easy single
47.4 Ishant Sharma to Nasir Jamshed 0
no run, a good slower one, Jamshed punches it to cover
47.3 Ishant Sharma to Nasir Jamshed 0
no run, pitched up and outside off, Jamshed punches it straight to mid on
47.2 Ishant Sharma to Shoaib Malik 1
1 run, angled in, Malik turns it down to deep mid wicket for one
47.1 Ishant Sharma to Shoaib Malik 0
no run, banged in short by Ishant, Malik ducks under quickly
Just 7 more needed to win. Definitely a walk in the park for Pakistan now.
End of over 47, 6 runs (2lb 1 2 1 . . )

Nasir Jamshed - 109(137) This over: 1 runs
Shoaib Malik - 30(33) This over: 3 runs
