India vs Pakistan, 1st T20I, Pakistan in India 2012-13

Commentary

Pakistan won by 5 wkts | India Vs Pakistan Live Score, 1st T20I

A great start to the India vs Pakistan series. It had it all - some brilliant cricket, a thrilling finish, and some verbal battles as well. The series is beautifully set up, the next 2 weeks are going to be fun! We'll bring everything to you. For now, it's goodbye and goodnight.
Hafeez is also the Man of the Match.
Hafeez: 'It was a great effort. We wanted to start the series well. Irfan was a surprise package and he did well, so did Gul and Ajmal. We selected Irfan because he is tall and he can bowl quick, he did that today. We knew that we had a good bowling attack, they just proved it today. Malik played a good knock with me. Once the new ball went, we had a chance to go after the bowlers. We took risks at the right time and it worked. This is a gift for the whole nation.'
Dhoni: 'We should have got more runs. We got a fantastic start from the openers but we couldn't capitalise. We lost regular wickets and that hurt us. We should have got 10-15 runs more. 145 would have been a safe score, but we also had to bowl full and not bowl short. It was a gamble to finish the pacers early. Malik and Hafeez were going well so we needed wickets. They were also going at a very fast pace so we had to take a gamble. The pacers did well, they left 10 runs for the last over which I thought was good.'
Shoaib Malik: 'Honestly, the way they started their bowling, it was too good. I forgot the bowler's name (Kumar), he was just too good. Our bowlers are world class. They have been performing for a couple of years and hope they continue. When you play against India, there is always pressure. I scored some runs, so my family will be happy. (When asked whether one family member will be happy or sad)'
Yet another India vs Pakistan thriller. What a roller-coaster ride in just a span of 20 overs. 134 wasn't too big a target but Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a stunning spell on debut to send panic waves through the Pakistan camp. Pakistan were 12/3 at one stage, but Pakistan's skipper Hafeez and the experienced Shoaib Malik calmed them down with some steady batting, before going on the attack towards the end. Things turned again towards the end as India got a couple of quick wickets, but Malik stayed calm and took them through.
End of over 20, 10 runs (1lb 2 1 6 )
PAK: 144/8
Shoaib Malik - 62(57) This over: 6 runs
Shahid Afridi - 3(2) This over: 3 runs
Ravindra Jadeja
(3.0 - 0 - 31 - 0)
19.4 Ravindra Jadeja to Shoaib Malik 6
SIX, Shoaib Malik you beauty! What a shot under pressure! This was flat and full, he went on his knees and slapped it straight into the sight-screen. Hafeez and a few others run into the middle to hug Shoaib Malik. A brilliant, brilliant match.
19.3 Ravindra Jadeja to Shahid Afridi 1
1 run, fired in flat, Afridi slogs across and gets an inside edge which goes off his pads to cover point, would have been plumb LBW if not for the inside edge
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Ravindra Jadeja have a chat.
19.2 Ravindra Jadeja to Shahid Afridi 2
2 runs, 7 off 4 now! A full toss, Afridi swings it to deep mid wicket, they take on Raina and get back for 2.
19.1 Ravindra Jadeja to Shoaib Malik 1lb
leg byes, 1 run, 9 off 5 now! Shoaib Malik charges down and slogs but it goes off the pads to short third man. Nervous moments!
Ravindra Jadeja [2.0-0-20-0] is back into the attack
Last 2 overs: 6 runs, 2 wickets.
10 runs, 6 balls. Yet another India vs Pakistan thriller. Phew. Who will bowl the last over? It is Ravindra Jadeja! Well, Dhoni doesn't have too many options.
End of over 19, 4 runs (1 1 1 . W 1 )
PAK: 134/8
Shoaib Malik - 56(55) This over: 3 runs
Shahid Afridi - 0(0) This over: 1 runs
Ashok Dinda
(4.4 - 0 - 28 - 1)
18.6 Ashok Dinda to Shoaib Malik 1
1 run, good delivery and a good stop. Very full and outside off, Malik jams it to backward point, Jadeja dives and stops. Shoaib Malik will have the strike
