South Africa vs Pakistan, 3rd ODI, Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013

Commentary

South Africa won by 34 runs | South Africa Vs Pakistan Live Score, 3rd ODI

So that's it for the day from us, join us for the fourth ODI on March 21 at 10:00 local time. Till then take care, good bye!
Man of the Match is shared between Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers for the world record third wicket stand. Amla says, 'It was great to bat with AB, we loved the time at the centre. The first ten overs were quite difficult, we didn't think we would get to the total that we eventually got to. Faf accelerated at the right time, we managed to set it up nicely, AB was amazing again, I think he's got a new MCC manual with his shots. Always great to bat with him. The track flattened out after the first ten overs and it suddenly changed course and unfortunately the bowlers had to pay a huge penalty. 2-1 up now, hopefully we can carry forward the momentum.'
AB de Villiers: 'Very proud of the way the boys performed, amazing crowd, amazing support, we just have to be consistent in future. It's a great pink initiative today, we are happy that we won the game hopefully that will help raise a lot of funds. Hashim Amla was brilliant again, he made things easier for me by taking the pressure off initially. We were worried when Afridi was going berserk, we managed to regroup in the break and pick ourselves up. Rory and Ryan bowled well, they pulled it back. Looking forward to Durban and we'll hope we can play some consistent cricket.'
Misbah-ul-Haq: 'I am really pleased with the way the team performed, we were good but just could not hang on to important moments. We lost three overs off Mohammad Irfan, it happens in the game, we'll have to find a way to get out of it. Shahid Afridi played tremendously, huge hits, excellent timing, I was confident that he can score a hundred, it was absolutely amazing to watch but unfortunately we couldn't pull it off. The new rules make things difficult for teams when the opposition batsmen are well set with nothing for the bowlers from the pitch. We have a lot of positives from this game, would just love to improve on our fielding and if the batsmen drop anchor it will help us in the future.'
So a fantastic game of cricket comes to an end. Pakistan fought well throughout their innings but were just not good enough on the day, maybe a couple of more wickets in hand could have got them past the line. They got off to a good start with Mohammad Hafeez batting sensibly alongside Kamran Akmal before suddenly losing their way. Shahid Afridi raised hopes with a quickfire knock. Wahab Riaz batted really well but ran out of partners as Dale Steyn led the Proteas bowling line up with good support from the rest of the bowlers. Eventually they held their nerve to go 2-1 up in the 5-match series. Stay tuned for the presentation which is coming up your way shortly.
48.1 Rory Kleinveldt to Wahab Riaz W
out Bowled!! South Africa go 2-1 up! This was the perfect yorker from Kleinveldt, full and on the leg stump line, Riaz failed to dig out the yorker and the leg stump is flattened. A easy win for the hosts despite some scare by Afridi. Riaz b Kleinveldt 45(52) [4s-5 6s-1]
Rory Kleinveldt [9.0-1-77-0] is back into the attack
47.6 Ryan McLaren to Wahab Riaz 1
1 run, short of a length and outside off, steered away behind square for a single
47.5 Ryan McLaren to Wahab Riaz 0
no run, full and outside off, Riaz has a big swing and misses
47.4 Ryan McLaren to Wahab Riaz 0
no run, McLaren misses out on a chance to run out Riaz! This was a low full toss on the pads, Riaz was looking to flick and missed, the ball hit his pads and rolled back towards the bowler. Riaz did not know where the ball was and wandered out of his crease, he then has to hurry back. McLaren gets to the ball and misses by a small margin. He hits the stumps in frustration
47.3 Ryan McLaren to Wahab Riaz 0
no run, full and outside off, Riaz can't reach to that on the drive
47.2 Ryan McLaren to Wahab Riaz 0
no run, low full toss from McLaren, Riaz drills it to long off and refuses the single
47.1 Ryan McLaren to Wahab Riaz 4
FOUR, lucky four, full and angling back in, Riaz makes room and looks to go over cover, gets a thick outside edge that races past point and into the fence
Ryan McLaren [8.0-0-51-3] is back into the attack
46.6 Dale Steyn to Mohammad Irfan 0
no run, full and on the stumps, Irfan moves across and defends it
