South Africa vs Pakistan, 3rd Test, Pakistan tour of South Africa 2013

Commentary

South Africa won by an innings and 18 runs | South Africa Vs Pakistan Live Score, 3rd Test

That ends our coverage of Test cricket in South Africa. Do join us on March 1st for the 1st T20I. Until then, cheers and bye..
The trophy has been presented to Graeme Smith. He will also get the mace on April 1st.
Smith: 'It has been a special summer. We did well travelling last winter and it was great to do well in front of our home crowds. This side has a lot of quality. We have been able to respond to all sorts of situations. I had forgotten that this was my 50th win as a captain, it is a wonderful and proud achievement. Very proud that a South African did it. It is nice to see different players come up and perform well. Credit to Misbah and his team. We will travel to UAE, things will be very different out there and we need to do well. I think the results have shown the positivity with which we have played this game. Thanks a lot to the sponsors as well as the people for all the support.'
de Villiers: 'A very good team performance. Pakistan played well, but we just played better. I am enjoying my keeping duties. Boucher has helped me a lot. Ray Jennings, Peter Kirsten have chipped in as well. This is a special group to play with. We are all working together in the same direction. We are enjoying the No. 1 rank and look forward to the next series.'
AB de Villiers is the Man of the Series for his consistent batting and keeping
Abbott: 'The feeling has not yet sunk in, I will reflect on it over the next couple of days. I did not think about a lot of things as I did not want to complicate myself, just wanted to do the basics well. I just wanted to support Dale and Vernon. I worked very closely with Lance Klusener, he is awesome, a sort of mentor for me. I thank my family and there are a lot more people. The seniors have been awesome and very welcoming. I think I just stuck to the basics well and reaped the rewards.'
Kyle Abbott is the Man of the Match for his splendid match figures of 9/68
Misbah: 'Credit should be given to the South African team. They asked us many questions, some of which we had no answers to. I think Newlands was a chance for us to make a comeback, we lost that opportunity. We knew this was a tough series, they were the No. 1 Test team in the world. Cape Town was really disappointing, we need to pull up our socks and do better in future. We performed well only in patches, we need to perform as a team. We are looking forward to some fresh minds on the T20 and ODI leg of the tour. South Africa are really tough to beat under these conditions. We are a better side in ODIs, we will hope to do well.'
Pakistan came in as worthy challengers but have been outlasted in all the three Tests. They were brushed aside at the Wanderers, had their moments at Newlands but failed to put in the winning touches and were never in with a chance over here at Centurion. Misbah's captaincy was questioned while both the batting as well as the bowling unit's reputation came under extreme scanner. They will hope to forget this series as a bad dream and will look to do better on their tour of West Indies later this year.
South Africa now have a long break from Test cricket with their next fixture scheduled only in October against the same opponents in UAE. They will get the mace for finishing as the number 1 team. They deserve all the accolades though. They have been intense this summer and won all the 5 Test matches. The batsmen scored bountiful of runs and the bowlers did not need to put in much effort to dismiss the opposition twice.
Comprehensive victory for the hosts. Graeme Smith has his 50th Test win, the 1st international captain to achieve it. Smiles all around as they take the stumps as a souvenir. A match to remember for debutant Kyle Abbott, who finished with 9 wickets. Steyn went past Allan Donald into number 3 on the highest wicket takers list for South Africa. Pakistan put up some resistance in the 2nd innings, but they were always playing second fiddle.
77.6 Robin Peterson to Rahat Ali W
out Lbw!! South Africa complete the whitewash. This was a quicker ball from Peterson, pitches on middle and comes with the angle, Ali was caught on the backfoot as he looked to play it towards the onside. The impact was on the leg stump and was going on to shave it. The decision stays with the umpire and the test match is over. Rahat Ali lbw b Peterson 22(27) [4s-5]
Rahat has been given out LBW, he wants a review. This looks plumb. Umpire's call, Rahat is OUT
77.5 Robin Peterson to Rahat Ali 0
no run, flighted delivery on the pads, Ali looks to defend and misses, a polite appeal is turned down
77.4 Robin Peterson to Rahat Ali 0
no run, tossed up and on the leg stump line, Rahat has a heave and misses, de Villiers can't collect it cleanly either, misses a stumping chance
