Sri Lanka's batting blacked out in the second essay and Pakistan were set a target of 302 in just 59 overs. After the brisk start given by the openers, Azhar Ali and Misbah combined well to fashion a famous victory for Pakistan and with it level the series 1-1. Fittingly, Iceman Misbah sealed the improbable chase. Mathews and his boys were eventually left rueing their ultra-negative ploys.
Batting first, Sri Lanka adhered to attritional cricket to post a formidable 428. The innings was championed by Angelo Mathews and tyro, Dilruwan Perera.
