On that surprising note, we sign off. Join us for more cricketing action in the days to come. Bye Bye!
The official reason that is been flashed on the big screen at the SCG is that the match has been abandoned due to the poor condition of the outfield. This will not go down well with the SCG crowd.
Michael Clarke: 'The crowds are very disappointed. We have to play well in the last match to level the series. We have to take the judgement of the umpires and the outfield is still wet. The decision to abandon the game was ultimately left to the umpires. The top four have to play well and we have some work to do. Kulasekara is bowling very well and we have to work out some plans for him.'
Oh dear, this is not good news. The game has been called off. Incredible when one considers that there has been no rain for the last 45 minutes. The people and the on-air commentators cannot believe it.
20:32 Local Time, 15:02 IST: The covers are off and the stumps are been put back on. However, the umpires have still not decided on a resumption time as they feel that there are some patches which require a bit more drying.
20:13 Local Time, 14:43 IST: The main cover is still on the pitch. There are some concern areas around the edge of the pitch. The umpires will come out in 10 minutes for an inspection and if everything is fine, then play will start in about 20 minutes.
20:07 Local Time, 14:37 IST: Live visuals show that the drizzle has stopped and the umpires are consulting with the curator. The covers are still in place though. The super-soppers are out in the middle draining the excess of water on the pitch.
20:05 Local Time, 14:35 IST: The rain has stopped at the SCG and the ground-staff are out there ensuring that the pitch is fit enough for play.
19:33 Local Time, 14:03 IST: It is still drizzling at the SCG. We could be in for a long delay here.
19:14 Local Time, 13:44 IST: The rain has gotten a bit heavier at the SCG. We will start losing overs after 5 minutes.
Mahela Jayawardene backs out of the shot as Starc runs in. Some droplets of rain probably fell in his eye. The umpires have seen that and they are calling the covers. It is getting heavier at the SCG and the players are walking off.
