Bangladesh vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test, Sri Lanka in Bangladesh 2014

Commentary

Sri Lanka won by an innings and 248 runs | Bangladesh Vs Sri Lanka Live Score, 1st Test

Sri Lanka have taken a 1-0 lead in the two match series. The second Test starts on Tuesday. Do join us for all the action from that match. That's it and until next time, take care! Cya!
Jayawardene: 'It has been a long time since I got a big one. I think it was an overall team performance. Everyone contributed to the victory. The pitch was good to bat on. There was some extra bounce and even today the pacers were able to extract good bounce. We need to have bit more patience and keep going once we are set.'
Mahela Jayawardene is the Man of the Match for his knock of 203.
Mathews: 'It was a clinical performance from all of us. I liked the way the boys went about things today. The bowlers have been brilliant for the past few games. We knew if they (pacers) get early wickets then the spinners can come in and continue their good work. Perera has played two Tests and has contributed in both. Yes, everybody contributed, Mahela, Kaushal, Vithanage, Sanga - all batted well. We will look go for the win at Chittagong.'
Mushfiqur: 'It was difficult to bat on Day 1. We didn't apply ourselves and we put down a few simple chances. I was the main culprit. The wicket was good to bat on today but none of us showed appliaction. We need to work on the basics and need to bat well. Hopefully, we will work hard and come back stronger in a couple of days time. Yes, the top order has to contribute if you have to put up a good total on the board.'
The hosts never really pushed the Sri Lankans. They got off to the worst possible start as they were reeling at 4 for 59. Shakib and Mushfiqur scored fifties, but it was not enough as they needed some one to get a hundred. In the end, they were bowled out for a mere 232 in their first innings. The visitors then came out in a positive frame of mind as Mahela, Silva and Vithanage racked up hundreds and handed a 498-run lead. With uneven bounce on the pitch, it was always going to be an impossible task to bat out two days. Bangladesh found that out as there were bundled out inside 52 overs.
Sri Lanka cruise through to a comprehensive victory. They started the day needing 9 wickets and they got them within two sessions. After getting 5 wickets in the first session, they needed 4 more to complete the formalities. Gazi and Nasir started off in a positive fashion before the former was given out LBW. Nasir continued but he too fell going for some quick runs. The last wicket added a record partnership of 53 runs for Bangaldesh. Perera was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up his first five wicket haul. He was well supported by Lakmal who got three for himself.
