England vs Sri Lanka, 5th ODI, Sri Lanka tour of England 2014

Commentary

Sri Lanka won by 6 wkts | England Vs Sri Lanka Live Score, 5th ODI

So, Sri Lanka clinch the ODI series. The two sides will exchange punches in the 2-match Test series, which kicks off with the first Test at Lord's on June 12. Cheers for your company. Do join us back for the Test series. Until then, goodbye and good night!
Mathews: 'Beating England is England is a great achievement for us. We started off slowly but the bowlers did well to pull them back to 220. I did not want them to get used to the bowlers, so I was fiddling around. He (Buttler) was taking unfair starts. He did that in the last game as well. We gave him two warnings. We had to go for it. I will probably stick by it. What we did was within the rules and in the spirit of cricket, like I said we gave him two warnings. The Tests will be a touch challenge as well. We are looking forward to it.'
Malinga: 'We are really happy. We have adjusted to the conditions. I enjoy bowling under pressure. I am training hard and I know what to bowl at that situation. We want to prove ourselves in Tests too.'
Malinga is the Man for the Series for his 7 wickets.
Thirimanne: 'It was not easy to bat on because the wicket as slow. After 2006, this is our first series win in England. I open the batting, I bat in the middle order. I enjoy batting at different positions.'
Thirimanne is the Man of the Match for his unbeaten 60.
Cook: 'We were 20-30 runs short. The wicket was slow and it suited them (Sri Lanka). If we would have got 250 on that wicket it would have been difficult to chase it down. We got to a good start, we got all 20's and 30's but did not get that big score. I am disappointed with it. You have to ask Mathews. I dont' know. Emotion can get the better of you. I don't know how I would have reacted to it (when asked about Buttler's bizarre dismissal). Gurney and Joran have impressed. We made some progress. Our death bowling has been good. Our batting is an area of concern. CJ has done everything that has been asked of him but still there are plenty of areas to work on with 20 games until the World Cup.'
Jimmy and Tredwell bowled really well but lacked support from their compatriots. Do stay with us for the presentation and quotes from both the captains.
Although Mahela fell to an avoidable shot when the game was hanging in the balance, the ice-cool Mathews applied the finishing touches and guided his side home. Thirimanne now seems a complete product and it will be interesting to view how he fares in the upcoming Test series, especially considering the additional responsibility of vice-captaincy.
A clinical chase from Sri Lanka. Though there are a few barbs fired at Sena for mankading Buttler, Sri Lanka deserve this series triumph. They have snatched the big moments, lifting their game in the decider.. After Kushal and Dilshan launched a quick start, Mahela and Thiri manipulated the middle overs expertly, milking ones and twos while occasionally finding the fence.
48.2 Ravi Bopara to Angelo Mathews 4
FOUR, Sri Lanka seal the series 3-2. Mathews punches the air in utter delight. The Sri Lankan dressing room errupts. This was a back of a length ball around off, Mathews slaps it past a diving backward point to win it in style. The players exchange pleasantries. Cook has a sharp word with Mathews. With this famous victory, Sri Lanka surge to second place on the ICC ODI rankings, displacing India
48.1 Ravi Bopara to Angelo Mathews 4
FOUR, horrid ball, slower short ball down leg, Mathews swivels and helps it to the deep fine leg fence
Ravi Bopara [4.0-0-19-0] is back into the attack
Bopara to face the music.. Mathews surveys the field like a civil engineer.
End of over 48, 9 runs (1 1 1 1 4 1 )
SL: 214/4
Angelo Mathews - 34(32) This over: 7 runs
Lahiru Thirimanne - 60(101) This over: 2 runs
Chris Jordan
(8.0 - 0 - 55 - 1)
47.6 Chris Jordan to Angelo Mathews 1
1 run, good length ball on middle, Mathews makes room and punches it to extra cover, who fumbles, easy single for Mathews
