Bangladesh vs West Indies, Only T20,
West Indies won by 18 runsInnings Comparison, Man of the match: Marlon Samuels
Commentary
That's it from us here. Hope you enjoyed it. Bye bye!
Sammy: 'We wanted to finish the year on a good note. It was good to see the way the guys batted, especially Marlon. He reminded me of the World Cup finals. We knew that Bangladesh will give it a go but they had to score at over 10 runs per over. We always knew that 190 was enough on this track. Gayle has bowled well for us in this series. Roach has also bowled well. It was good that we held our nerves and won in the end. The ODI series and the T20 was very competitive and we enjoyed our stay, now we're looking forward to go back to our families.'
Samuels: 'I knew that I just had to stick in there. Someone had to bat around me and Bravo did that wonderfully. We came here as the champions and we were relaxed. Once I get in, I can get the job done so I back myself. I'm going down under for the Big Bash next.'
Obviously, Marlon Samuels is the Man of the Match.
Rahim: 'Probably the last over changed the game but you can't blame Rubel. When Marlon hits, he hits them continuously. He did it to Malinga in the World Cup final too, so credit to him. Haque and Tamim Iqbal played really well in the first 4 overs and we got a flying start but lost our way a bit in the middle. It's nice to see the top order scoring runs. I thought WI played really well. They have the strength to hit whenever they want. We have to work hard and take confidence from this series.'
That ends the West Indies tour of Bangladesh. West Indies won the Test series 2-0, lost the ODI series 2-3 and have ended the series with a win in the one-off T20 game. They will be reasonably happy with their overall effort. Bangladesh too, will be satisfied. They're growing as a strong unit in the limited overs versions, especially at home. If only they could compete more in Tests...
Bangladesh should not be satisfied with this performance. When you lose just 1 wicket, you should expect to score more than just 179 on a flat track. Mahmudullah went past a half century and Tamim Iqbal almost made a century, but they missed out on a lot of scoring chances in the middle overs. At least 10 full tosses were wasted and Bangladesh have been made to pay for that. For West Indies, it was Gayle's off spin which made the difference. He conceded only 18 runs in his 4 overs in the middle and changed the game their way. Bangladesh will look back at the game and reckon that the last over from Rubel Hossain where he conceded 29 runs was the turning point. It indeed was.
