West Indies vs Zimbabwe, 1st T20, Zimbabwe tour of West Indies 2013
West Indies won by 8 wktsInnings Comparison, Man of the match: L Simmons
Commentary
That is all from us here. Join us for the second T20I that will be played at this same venue tomorrow. Bye Bye!
Presentation Ceremony:
Simmons: 'It was a good batting wicket. The team played well in the first three ODIs and there was confidence. I have been playing a lot of first class cricket before the start of this series. My role is to go after the bowling in the powerplay.'
Lendl Simmons is the MoM for his unbeaten knock of 63 off 49 balls.
Sammy: 'It was a clinical victory for us. We have played well in T20Is. We adapt well in this format. We bowled well but we did not finish well. Simmons and Charles laid a good platform and Dwayne Bravo finished it off well. After the win in the T20 World Cup, it has given the team confidence to execute the plans. We might experiment with the squad tomorrow. We appeal to the Antigua fans to come out and support us.'
Brendan Taylor: 'Our top three batters are not getting starts. Waller and Ervine played very well. We made it hard for ourselves in the middle overs. Mpofu is a strong character and he bounced back well. We will take the positives out of this game and come out hard for the second T20I.'
Johnson Charles got things going when he struck five consecutive boundaries off Kyle Jarvis. Chris Mpofu bowled well as he snapped up the wickets of Charles and Darren Bravo. Lendl Simmons and Dwayne Bravo stepped up and ensured that there were no further hiccups. Simmons, in particular, clouted sixes at will as he got to his third T20I fifty. Zimbabwe have themselves to blame as they failed to run-out Dwayne Bravo as Brendan Taylor botched up a run-out chance. He went on to give good support in this 85 run stand as West Indies romped home to an eight wicket win. This is West Indies' first win over Zimbabwe in T20Is and they have avenged the defeat of 2010 in style. Join us for the presentations.
