Kevin Pietersen has been in a tremendous form in the recent times. His ability to take on the bowlers and score runs at a brisk pace stands him out among his peers. But his off-field issues with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have cost him his place in the national side.

Pietersen featured for Melbourne Stars in the recently concluded Big Bash League (BBL) and scored runs on a consistent basis to steer his team to the finals. He played a great knock of 74 runs in the final but that didn’t prove out to be sufficient as Sydney Thunder won the ultimate encounter.

As the ICC World Twenty20 (T20) is around the corner, Pietersen feels he would prove instrumental and can help the English side to claim the title in the Indian sub-continent. Pietersen in his column for smh.com.au wrote, “I want to answer once and for all the questions about me playing for England at the World Twenty20 in March, then leave it there. The truth is, I would absolutely love to. I feel I am in the best form of my life and it would be an honour to represent the country alongside the fantastic group of players we have got in our side. It would be great to bat in the middle order in any form of cricket with Joe Root and Ben Stokes. England have a chance of winning the World Twenty20 but playing on pitches in the subcontinent is very hard for our batsmen. The reason is that English players do not play enough cricket in Asia, which is where my experience in Twenty20 cricket in India over the last seven or eight years could help as well.”

Pietersen has been a regular participant in the Indian Premier League (IPL) too, where he has featured several teams throughout his career, often playing an important role. His massive experience while playing for the English side too can be influential and can help the young English guns flourish in tricky spinning conditions.

Pietersen is a match-winner and England at present have a good young side that exhibits great potential. Pietersen’s presence will certainly be the icing on the English cake and stand them a great chance in the prestigious tournament.
