England all-rounder Luke Wright, who has been out of favour for past sometime, hit a belligerent 109 not out in the Melbourne derby in the Big Bash League (BBL) here on Saturday. Playing for the Melbourne Stars against the Melbourne Renegades in front of a capacity crowd at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), Wright took the Renegades bowlers to the cleaners.

The 30-year-old Sussex captain brought his ‘A’ game into play and helped his team seal a seven-wicket victory. He hit 11 fours and 4 towering sixes in his 66-ball knock in front of 80,883 people at the MCG and took the team home with five balls remaining. Kevin Pietersen failed as he could make only six for the Stars but Wright, with only 39 from three previous innings, did it for them.

It was a second consecutive victory for the Stars, who had lost their opening two fixtures in the 20-over competition. Wright, who last played for England in a Twenty20 game in March 2014, has made 51 appearances for the team. He would be hoping for a recall for the ICC World T20 which will be played in March this year in India. Check how Twitterati reacted to Wright’s knock here:
