Shahid Afridi is one of the most-loved Pakistani  cricketers in India. He has often praised India’s hospitality, an act that has time and again irked his fans back home in Pakistan. Now Afridi managed to stir up a controversy following his comments on Kashmir on Twitter, where he referred to the state as as ‘Indian Occupied Kashmir’. Unfortunately, the phrase in his tweet did not go down with many, especially Indians.

His tweet read “Appalling and worrisome situation ongoing in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Innocents being shot down by oppressive regime to clamp voice of self determination & independence. Wonder where is the @UN & other int bodies & why aren’t they making efforts to stop this bloodshed?”

Afridi has always maintained that sports should be a medium to end tensions between the two neighbouring countries than as another tool of politics. It was only in February that Afridi was seen playing alongside, Virender Sehwag, Mohammed Kaif, Ajit Agarkar and Zaheer Khan during Ice Cricket tournament in Switzerland.
